Foot reflexology zurich

What is foot reflexology ?
Foot reflexology is a highly versatile and surprisingly effective method to promote relaxation and relieve a wide range of discomforts. It is based on the principle that specific areas on the feet correspond to organs and systems throughout the body. By applying targeted pressure to these reflex zones, the autonomic nervous system calms down, energy flow is stimulated, and physical as well as emotional blockages can release.
After a session, legs and feet often feel incredibly light — many clients even report improved body awareness and a deeper sense of wellbeing. You can book foot reflexology Zurich at either of our two Tida Thai Massage locations.
Benefits of Relaxing Foot Reflexology
Foot reflexology works on two powerful levels — the body and the internal organs. By applying gentle yet targeted pressure to specific points on the feet, signals are sent through the nervous system. This can help to:
- release muscular tension
- ease discomfort and pain
- stimulate metabolism
- harmonize the flow of energy throughout the body
1) Effects on the Body
Targeted pressure on reflex points activates pathways in the nervous system. This can support relaxation, reduce stress, and promote overall wellbeing. Many clients notice lighter legs, reduced tension and a deeper sense of calm after a session.
2) Effects on Internal Organs
Many reflex points correspond to specific organs, such as:
stomach & intestines
kidneys & bladder
lungs
head, sinuses
the hormonal and stress-regulation systems
Our therapists adjust the treatment to your individual needs — for example addressing trigger points, tension patterns or overstimulated systems. This personalized approach makes relaxing foot reflexology a valuable wellness treatment for many different conditions.
The following two illustrations from a traditional Thai textbook show the connection between the body and the feet through energy lines — also known as meridians or Sen lines.

Although foot reflexology became more widely known in Western medicine in the early 20th century thanks to Dr. William Fitzgerald, the practice itself is several thousand years older.
There is evidence that various ancient cultures — including Indigenous American civilizations (Inca, Maya) around 12,000 BC, as well as Egypt and Asia (2,000–5,000 BC) — used foot massage to promote wellbeing or support healing.

What Conditions Can Foot Reflexology Help With?
Foot reflexology can support a wide range of conditions and everyday discomforts.
Common areas where clients benefit include:
stress and sleep problems
headaches and migraines
menstrual discomfort
digestive issues (stomach & intestines)
respiratory system (lungs, sinuses)
muscular tension up to the neck
general regeneration and overall wellness
Foot reflexology is also very popular as a wellness treatment — ideal for switching off, relaxing deeply, and recharging your energy.
How a Foot Reflexology Session Works
1️⃣ Brief Check-In Before the Massage
Our therapists speak basic English, so it helps if you write your wishes or concerns briefly in the booking notes when reserving online (e.g. “sleep”, “digestion”, “stress”, “sole of foot”, “calf”, “head”).
During your visit, you can also explain your needs using keywords, gestures or by pointing to sensitive areas that require more attention.
👉 Important: We do not give medical diagnoses.
The treatment is relaxation-focused and follows traditional Thai pressure and line techniques.
2️⃣ Preparation
Your feet and lower legs are gently warmed and loosened.
You lie comfortably, covered with soft warm towels.
The atmosphere is calm and deeply relaxing.
3️⃣ Reflex Zone Massage (Thai Method)
In contrast to the Western “reflexology therapy”, which often works almost exclusively on the soles of the feet, the Thai method includes:
- targeted pressure on specific reflex points
- stroking techniques along traditional energy lines (known as Sen lines)
- stretching and mobilising the toes and foot mechanics
- massage of the calves and lower legs
- optional use of a small wooden stick to reach points more precisely
The intensity is adjusted continuously — you can always show or say if you prefer it softer or stronger.
4️⃣ Effects on the Whole Body
Many clients report:
- warm, lighter legs
- deep relaxation
- noticeable relief from stress
- pleasant tingling sensations
- released tension
Because the reflex zones connect the feet with organs and body systems, the massage creates a holistic feeling of wellbeing.
5️⃣ Finishing Touch & Short Head Massage
At the end, you receive a short, relaxing head massage, which traditionally completes a Thai reflexology treatment.
After the session, you can briefly point out or mention which areas felt especially sensitive or helpful — this helps us tailor future treatments to your needs.
Question & Answers Foot Reflexology
Is Foot Reflexology Effective ?
Our conclusion: yes – and here’s why.
Many clients experience noticeable relaxation and relief after foot reflexology. The Thai-style reflexology practiced at Tida Thai Massage follows a holistic, non-diagnostic approach – we do not provide medical assessments.
This traditional technique combines precise pressure points with flowing strokes along specific energy lines. The calves are also included in the treatment. In some cases, a small wooden stick is used to work on certain points more intensively and accurately.
- stimulates blood circulation
- activates nerve pathways that run throughout the entire body
- loosens tight or tense structures in the feet
- improves mobility of toes and foot mechanics
As with traditional Thai massage in general, foot reflexology is based on empirical healing knowledge – on observation, long-term client feedback and centuries of experience.
Scientific evidence?
Only a few small studies exist, for example on changes in intestinal or kidney blood flow or on the effect of foot reflexology in cases of knee osteoarthritis.
However, there are no large-scale scientific studies proving that pressing specific points on the sole of the foot produces targeted healing effects in the corresponding organs.
Yet “not scientifically proven” does not mean “ineffective.” Large clinical studies are mainly conducted for medications, where a specific illness and a lucrative market exist. Manual therapy, on the other hand, is always a personal, individualised treatment – and not part of the pharmaceutical business model.
